Overview

RMIT’s revamped Bachelor of Information Technology (IT) places students in the driver seat to design the program of their dreams. 

Not only do students now have the flexibility to specialise with a major, but they can also choose to gain a breadth of knowledge across multiple areas through minors and electives. 

There is high demand throughout industry for those with knowledge of Artificial Intelligence, Data Science and Cloud Technologies – all of which are offered as minors in this program. To ensure students are future-ready, multiple STEM courses will allow them to grab career opportunities, both in Vietnam and globally, in a world defined by advancing technology.

Technical knowledge can also be complimented with business insights and necessary organisational skills such as project management and cross-cultural collaboration.

Key to the success of RMIT’s graduates as they navigate the corporate world is the fact that they also are taught important skills, such as English language proficiency, communication, presentation skills and teamwork. 

This program comes with accreditation from the Australia Computer Society (ACS), meaning graduates will join a professional association with over 47,000 members, representing Australia’s technology community across industry, government and education. To be a part of ACS greatly enhances the ability to find employment internationally. RMIT alumni now work all over the world, not just in Vietnam but also in Australia, Canada and the United States, in high-level positions for international companies such as National Australia Bank, Amazon, and Intel.

Learning, teaching and assessment

The Bachelor of Information Technology is delivered through lectures, tutorials, projects, group work and industry placements. Assessments will vary with each course but may include examinations, assignments, presentations, projects and group work.

You are expected to develop following Program Learning Outcomes:

Enabling Knowledge

  • You will gain skills as you apply knowledge effectively to new situations

Critical Analysis

You will learn to accurately and objectively examine and consider Information Technology topics, evidence, or situations, in particular to:

  • Analyse and model requirements and constraints for the purpose of designing and implementing software applications and other software systems, and
  • Evaluate and compare designs of such systems on the basis of requirements of the organisational needs

Problem Solving

Your capability to analyse problems and synthesise suitable solutions will be extended as you learn to:

  • Design and implement software applications and other software solutions that accommodate specified requirements and constraints, based on analysis or modelling or requirements specification

Communication

You will learn to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences through a range of modes and media, in particular to:

  • Present and explain complex software applications and other software solutions, alternative solutions, and decision recommendations to both IT and non-IT personnel via technical reports of a professional standard and technical presentations

Team Work

You will learn to work as an effective and productive team member in a range of professional and social situations, in particular to:

  • Work effectively in different roles, to form, manage, and successfully produce outcomes from teams, whose members may have diverse cultural backgrounds and life circumstances, and differing levels of technical expertise

Responsibility

You will be required to accept responsibility for your own learning and make informed decisions about judging and adopting appropriate behavior in professional and social situations. This includes accepting the responsibility for life-long learning. Specifically, you will learn to:

  • Effectively apply relevant standards, ethical considerations, and an understanding of legal and privacy issues to designing software applications and other software systems

Professional recognition

The Bachelor of Information Technology program is accredited at the professional level by the Australian Computer Society (ACS).

The ACS is a signatory to the Seoul Accord, an agreement responsible for accreditation or recognition of tertiary-level computing and IT-related qualifications worldwide. This shows commitment to good practice in computing and IT-related education. Membership in professional bodies adds credibility to your area of expertise and often provides access to a wide range of resources.

Further studies

When you successfully complete this program, you may be eligible for entry into an RMIT honours or postgraduate program in Vietnam and Australia.

Payments can be made each semester, on a course-by-course basis.

Notes:

  1. The duration of programs is flexible and can be adapted on an individual basis upon enrolment.
  2. Program fees are priced and invoiced in Vietnam Dong (VND).
  3. Payment in other currencies will be converted to VND at the exchange rate on that day. Bank transfer is the preferred method of payment.
  4. The fees in USD are ONLY applicable to those international students who arrange for payment from overseas, as per Circular No. 32/2013/TT-NHNN.

Entry requirements

Academic requirements

  • Vietnamese Upper Secondary School (High School) Graduation Diploma with a minimum GPA of 7.0/10.0 for Grade 12 (For other international qualifications please view entry requirements by country​; and
  • A minimum score of 6.0/10.0 (or equivalent) in Grade 12 in mathematics subjects

Academic pathway

English requirements

Successfully complete RMIT Vietnam English Advanced, or complete one of the following English proficiency tests:

  • IELTS (Academic) 6.5 (no band below 6.0)
  • TOEFL iBT 79 (with minimum score of 13 in Reading, 12 in Listening, 18 in Speaking and 21 in Writing)
  • Pearson Test of English (Academic) 58 (no communication band below 50)
  • C1 Advanced (formerly known as Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE)) or C2 Proficiency (formerly known as Cambridge English: Proficiency (CPE)) 176 (no less than 169 in any component)

Note:

Previous study and proficiency tests are recognised for two years from the completion date or test date to the program commencement date unless stated otherwise.

Where you have achieved more than one form of English language proficiency only the most relevant achievement will be considered in the admission decision.
